Today and Tomorrow

So it seems the biggest thing happening in Burlington is tonight's Akron/Familly, Bob Log III, Greg Davis, and Megafaun show at Club Metronome. Also of merit is Oh My Rockness fave Andrew Bird and Montreal's Plants and Animals at Higher Ground Ballroom on Friday. Violins, hipster, intellectual, yeah.

Incubating Eggs

The Middlebury College radio station, WRMC 91.1 FM, started it's new Fall rotation this week, and I highly recommend the show Incubating Eggs, on Mondays from 3:30-5:00 PM. Lots of Explosions in the Sky, noise, and music for thinking people. The DJ takes requests as well. A good way to ease the pain of Mondays.

I Want to Know: Who's Behind the Church of Gion?

Please tell, who is the 34 yr old Burlington male behind the Church of Gion? I Dig!

Oct. 12--Big Decision

So, we luckily find ourselves with a choice of good shows in the area on Friday, Oct. 12. Gogol Bordello in Montpelier or Aids Wolf at 242 Main? What's it going to be people? I'm opting for the Bordello, even though they are kind of media darlings at the moment, being featured on NPR and various other big time media outlets. But, hell, the music is fun and with that many people on stage, it should be a real PERFORMANCE. I read somewhere that this show has been labelled the biggest concert in Montpelier in 20 years. Wow, I want to see the show and all, but that's kind of scary.

Aids Wolf is tempting, though. Nice to have some choice! Keep the bands coming!

Meet and Greet

As a newcomer to the area, I've found that there is a good non-jam music scene in Burlington, but there doesn't seem to be a centralized forum for finding gigs. Seven Days does a lot of stuff well, but doesn't seem to list shows at 242 Main or Speaking Volumes or some of the better shows at ArtHop, for instance. It makes me wonder what I'm missing. There are some interesting, helpful, and well written blogs out there, but some shows I think are worth seeing aren't discussed. So, I'm trying to list (mostly musical) events in the Burlington, VT area (which thankfully includes Montreal) that are experimental, punk rock, indie rock, or otherwise out of the ordinary. Feel free to contact me with events (please!). And, I want to give a HUGE shout out to A Snake in the Garden and Oak, your music is of such high calibre, it fills me with hometown pride already. Also can't wait to hear Solah (who are supposed to sound similiar to Earth)! Joe Preston lovers rejoice!
